Connect your WhatsApp number
DocsAPI referenceAdvanced
MeAPI connects your number through Meta’s own Embedded Signup — a Facebook pop-up where you choose your business and verify the number. MeAPI never sees your Facebook password.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- A Facebook account that can manage your business (or create one during signup).
- Your business name, website (or social page) and category.
- A phone number that can receive an SMS or voice call for verification, or the number you already use in the WhatsApp Business app (see Coexistence).
- A number on the regular WhatsApp (not Business) app must be deleted from that app first — or use coexistence after moving it to the WhatsApp Business app.
- No Facebook Page and no business verification needed to connect (unverified businesses start with lower messaging limits); the popup adds the number to your business itself.
- Log in at login.meapi.in and open Connection.
- Choose how to connect:
- Connect a new number — a number not in use on WhatsApp. It will run on the API only.
- I already use the WhatsApp Business app on this number — keep the app (coexistence).
- In the Facebook pop-up, log in and select or create your Meta Business portfolio.
- Create or select a WhatsApp Business Account and enter the display name customers will see. Meta reviews display names; keep it the same as your business or brand name.
- Add and verify the phone number with the code Meta sends by SMS or call (for coexistence: scan the QR code shown, from the WhatsApp Business app).
- Back in MeAPI, the number shows as Connected. Under My Numbers you can see its quality rating, messaging limit and name status.
After connecting
Section titled “After connecting”- Templates: create some under Templates, or pick from the library — Meta reviews each one.
- Verify your business in Meta Business Settings to raise your messaging limit and to qualify for the official business account badge later.
- Invite your team under Agents, and connect more numbers the same way if your plan allows.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Pop-up closes without connecting | Allow pop-ups for login.meapi.in and try again; finish every step in the pop-up |
| “This number is already registered” | It is still on a WhatsApp app — delete it there, or use coexistence if it is on the Business app |
| No verification code | Choose voice call instead of SMS; landlines must use voice |
| Display name rejected | Use the exact business name shown on your website or documents |
