How to send WhatsApp bulk messages without getting your number banned
By the MeAPI team · · 1 min read
“Bulk WhatsApp” tools that automate WhatsApp Web are the most common reason Indian businesses lose their number. The approved alternative — the WhatsApp Business API — can message thousands of customers a day, as long as you follow a few rules.
1. Use the official API, not a WhatsApp Web sender
Unofficial senders run your personal or Business app session in a browser and push messages through it. That breaks WhatsApp’s terms, and numbers get restricted or banned when people report them. Campaigns through the Cloud API are sent by Meta itself.
2. Only message people who opted in
Meta requires that customers agreed to hear from you on WhatsApp. Record where each contact opted in — a checkout checkbox, a website widget, a “Hi” to your number. MeAPI stores the opt-in source on every contact and handles STOP and START replies for you.
3. Send approved templates
Business-initiated messages must use a template Meta approved in advance. Write it clearly, say who you are, and give a way to opt out on marketing messages. Our template library has 170+ templates written to Meta’s rules.
4. Watch your quality rating
Meta rates each number from customer feedback (blocks, reports, reads). Low quality reduces how many people you can message per day. Check it before big campaigns — MeAPI shows number health and alerts you when it drops.
5. Grow your limit steadily
New numbers start with a lower daily limit for business-initiated messages, which rises as you send good-quality messages and complete business verification. Don’t send your biggest campaign on day one.
6. Target, don’t blast
A relevant message to 2,000 recent buyers beats a generic one to 20,000 old leads. Use segments such as “bought in the last 90 days” and A/B test your message.
Follow these and bulk messaging is safe, measurable and — unlike SMS — actually read.
