Google Sheets — send WhatsApp messages from spreadsheet rows
LearnIntegrationsIntermediate
🎯 Goal
Add a row and a WhatsApp message goes out. Great for bookings, fee reminders, deliveries or Google Form sign-ups.
🧰 What you need
- A Google Sheet with a header row (one column holds the phone number)
- An approved template
- In MeAPI: Integrations → Google Sheets → Connect. Copy the Webhook URL and the secret.
- Open your Google Sheet. Row 1 holds column names; include one for the phone number, for example
phone, plus anything your template needs (name, date, amount). - Extensions → Apps Script. Replace everything with the script shown in MeAPI, paste your secret into
MEAPI_SECRET, and save. - Click Run once (choose
sendNewRows) and allow access. - Open Triggers (clock icon) → Add trigger → function
sendNewRows, event source Time-driven, every minute. For Google Forms use From spreadsheet → On form submit instead. - Back in MeAPI, switch on New row, pick a template and map columns to its variables. Column names become the field names.
- Add a test row with your own number.
Each row is sent once (its sheet ID + row number is the reference), and the script writes the result into the MeAPI status column.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”- No time-driven trigger. Nothing is sent until you run the script by hand. Add the trigger.
- Renaming header columns after mapping. The mapping breaks. Re-map in MeAPI.
- Numbers formatted as numbers in Sheets, losing the
+. Format the phone column as plain text, or include the country code without the+.
