Template buttons — quick replies, links, calls, coupon codes and forms
🎯 Goal
Add buttons customers can tap, so it’s easy to reply, buy, call, copy a coupon or fill in a form.
🧰 What you need
- A template in the builder
Button types
Section titled “Button types”| Button | What it does | Limit per template | Label length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quick reply | Sends the label back as a reply, and can start a chatbot | Up to 10 in total | 20 |
| Visit website | Opens a URL. The end of the URL can be a variable | 2 | 25 |
| Call phone number | Calls your number | 1 | 25 |
| Copy offer code | Copies a coupon code (up to 15 characters) | 1 | — |
| Open a form (Flow) | Opens a WhatsApp Flow form | 1 | 20 |
A template can have up to 10 buttons in total. With more than 3, WhatsApp shows the first ones and hides the rest behind See all options.
Rules that trip people up
Section titled “Rules that trip people up”- Keep quick replies together and the other buttons together. Meta rejects them mixed in between. Also, quick replies mixed with other types don’t render on WhatsApp Desktop.
- Dynamic URLs: the variable must be at the very end, for example
https://shop.in/track/{{1}}. Give a full example URL such ashttps://shop.in/track/A1042. - Phone numbers in the full international form:
+919810000000.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”Quick replies that start a chatbot path.
A coupon code plus a dynamic link.
Quick replies + chatbots
Section titled “Quick replies + chatbots”When a customer taps a quick reply, the tap arrives like a message with the button’s text. Start a flow with a keyword trigger matching that text, such as Reschedule, or use the button’s reply inside a running flow. See Triggers.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”- A long label, such as “Click here to view our latest collection”. Keep labels short and action-led: View collection.
- A URL to a link shortener (bit.ly etc.). Meta often rejects these. Use your own domain.
- A Flow button without a published Flow. Publish the Flow first, then pick it in the template.
